Canal Street Cutlery is rising like a Phoenix from the ashes of Schrade Cutlery. With skills and knowledge from hundreds of combined years in the cutlery industry, this handful of dedicated and talented men are abandoning the names and dross of the 100 year old Schrade firm like a Cicada leaves its skin.
Taking the street name that fronts a 100 plus year old knife factory, they are blending the old and the new. They have all the cutlery skills of the 19th and 20th centuries and access to all of the state-of-the-art equipment of the 21st century as well. They will be making limited knives of superlative quality.
The first Canal Street Cutlery knives are two very traditional and basic patterns, a Drop Point Hunter and a Slim Trapper. The trapper has 3-3/8" clip and spey blades of D2 tool steel. The hunter has a 3-1/2" blade, of D2 as well. All blades are hardened to 59-61 Rc. The jigged amber bone on both knives overlays fileworked brass liners and both have coined shields. The trapper weighs 4.1 oz and measures 4-1/2" closed. The hunter measures 8 1/8" and weighs 6.9 oz.
