A.G. Russell Knives

Ka-Bar's history goes back to the Tidioute Cutlery Company, which was founded in Pennsylvania in 1898. Out of the failure of that company, the Union Razor Company was formed in 1902. The name was changed again in 1909 to Union Cutlery Company then moved to Olean, New York in 1910. The Ka-Bar® trademark was introduced in the 1920's and around 1942 the company submitted a Ka-Bar branded knife to the U. S. Marine Corps.

This tiny Titanium Lockback Folder is a continuation of a series of folders based on the A. G. Russell™ Ultimate Pen Knife, which we introduced mid-year 2003. That small pen knife is a slip joint and measures only 2" closed. While it is an extremely handy and useful little knife, I saw the need for a series of knives that would be just as thin, or nearly as thin (to rest comfortably in your pocket) but a little larger and with a locking blade.

These Wrangler® Big Timber lockbacks are traditional style folders favored by those who like a solid heavy folder. The small one fits comfortably in your pocket, while the large one works best in a pouch on your belt. Available in two sizes both with handle scales of African Ebony with maple burl and nickel silver spacers, nickel silver bolsters and caps and brass liners.

The Contractor 2x4 is a new working theme knife from SOG®. Whether you are a contractor, or a do-it-yourselfer, you will get a chuckle out of the 2x4. Opening or closing the blade rotates the circular saw blade. A hammer head acts as the lock release and the handle houses a pencil sharpener in the butt, a single bubble level, and holes for wire stripping using the edge of the blade.

Over the past few years, Blue Steel and White Steel from Japan have become fairly popular in the United States. This is partly due to the mystery surrounding just what these Japanese steels are, but it is largely because high carbon tool steels are no longer widely used in knives being produced today. Lots of A. G. Russell™ customers still feel that the non-stainless high carbon blade steels are the best.

The Elite Skinner™ Series consists of four exciting new skinners. Series I consists of two fixed blade knives with deep bellied skinner blades, one with a guthook. Both have Olive Wood handle scales. Most interesting are the two knives in Series II. These are folders, but Remington® has designed a carrying system (sheath) that allows them to be carried either as a folder or as a fixed blade.

Boker's® 2007 annual Damascus knife was recognized with the Best Imported Knife of the Year® award at the 2008 Blade® Show in Atlanta. Because of this award, Boker® was motivated to use the Zirconia model as the vehicle to showcase their first use of Mosaic Damascus.

The Fatcat is the largest and most massive folder SOG® Specialty Knives has ever produced. Not intended for the main stream, it is designed with heavy work in mind. For its size, it is amazingly light and quick to open.

All previous Leo Damascus folders featured exotic wood inlays in CNC milled anodized aircraft aluminum handles. In this latest version, the inlay is not wood but 180-layer corrosion-free Damascus, which is carefully set into the handle by hand. The 3-3/4" drop point blade of 300-layer Damascus is hand forged from the barrel of the German battle tank Leopard I.

Lone Wolf Knives introduced the Paul® Executive, the newest knife design from Paul Poehlmann, at the 2008 S.H.O.T. Show with a first production run of 400 pieces with Marbled Cocobolo handle scales. It, along with a 3-D Carbon Fiber handled version, has become a standard part of the Lone Wolf line.

H. P. Klötzli has created a very limited series of Christian Wimpff's striking Gentleman's Folder with scrimshawed images of big game animals on Wooly Mammoth Ivory scales exclusively for A. G. Russell™ and Russell's For Men™.

The handles scales on both sides of the knife are created by Navajo silversmith David Yellowhorse. He has also hand carved the nickel silver bolsters and caps. The liners are brass.

The original Stingray, one of the first folders SOG® produced, was a heavy-duty knife. The Stingray 2.0 and 3.0 represent the next generation. SOG decided to keep the thick blade stock of the original (a full 1/8"), but stepped up to San Mai steel, a VG-10 core at 59-60 Rc. laminated 420J2 on either side.

For years, I have wanted to offer A. G. Russell™ customers an outstanding hawkbill knife.  With the help of our new engineering department, we have gone far beyond the hawkbill as produced by knife manufacturers in the past.

In the 1950s, Bo Randall designed the Model 14 Attack for the troops in Korea. A knife designed for combat and survival, this knife has become one of their most popular models. This is only the second time this Randall model has been in an A. G. Russell Catalog and never before with Green Micarta. As much as I like the Model 1, I have to tell you, if I were young and headed for Iraq or Afghanistan, I would much rather have the Model 14 on my belt.

I've always wanted a non-threatening knife with a double ground blade, and I mostly prefer that single blade knives lock. I've totally redesigned the old fashioned swell end jack to reflect those two personal preferences.

Kershaw's newest edition to the Shallot model in the Onion series is the Composite Blade. Kershaw developed a process where they fit two different steels together to create a blade. The primary purpose for creating a blade in this manner is to allow the manufacturer to use a lesser quality steel for the spine and one of the new expensive high performance steels for the cutting edge.

This miniature from Wrangler® is an interpretation drawn from the many “bowie knives” with coffin shaped handles made over the past 175 years.

In my opinion, the Executive is the perfect Paul Poehlmann design. When given the opportunity to offer a short production run with Black Lip Pearl to our customers, we immediately said yes. The Black Lip Pearl against the simple stainless frame and blade creates an elegant, unobtrusive knife.
