Keith Murr Hunter with Ram's Horn

There are lots of knifemakers making handmade knives in their own shop, some just set up in their garage or a small outbuilding, and some with fine well equipped shops. Those who are making knives at the quality level demanded by our customers is much smaller. Finding makers who are producing the quality and can supply enough pieces for us to include in an A. G. Russell? catalog is rare.

Mcusta® Tsukiyono Usagi Folder

The rabbit and the moon are often found within the paintings and fables of artists and storytellers in Japan. Artists often paint the moon with rabbits racing across its face. Perhaps the well-known legend has its origin in a Buddhist story in which a rabbit throws himself into the fire to become the food he has been unable to provide to feed a weak old man (really a disguised deity in the Land of Gods). The deity was so impressed by the rabbit's sacrifice that he placed him on the moon so humans would remember his selfless act.

The carbon content is about 1.1%, with 0.2-0.3% Manganese and 0.1-.02% silicon and also contains molybdenum and vanadium.

Also making the Trident folder unique is the Groove in the handle, which allows the operator to cut small cord without having to open the blade. It also features Digi-Grip, a variable pattern on the handle for a coarser grip.

Fox Cutlery SpyFOX Amboyna

SpyFOX was designed by Maniago, Italy knife manufacturer Fox Cutlery after their successful collaboration on the Spyderco VOLPE. William Henry Knives has just celebrated their 10th Anniversary. They have grown from a one man shop in 1997 to a studio with 20 employees today and have set a new standard for "production" cutlery.

A. G. Russell™ Shopmade® Chute Knife

In the late 1960s, I designed a knife for the pilots in Vietnam. By 1972, we were producing this knife in our newly acquired Morseth knife company which I purchased in 1970 from Harry Morseth's son Gordon after Harry's death. I hired a very young Bob Dozier to move the Morseth shop to Springdale, Arkansas where we made Morseth® knives until early 2000.

Ka-Bar® has a long history with the U.S. Armed Forces. The "Ka-Bar knife" or the USMC, was the standard issue knife for our military for most of the 20th century. Through the years, it was made by other companies as well, but was still known as the "Ka-Bar".

Canal Street Cutlery® White Buffalo Muskrat

Mica Pearl is a unique resin based handle material developed by Michael Prater & Co. as an alternative to Celluloid. The material is 100% stable, it will not burn or change color with age. Each color is developed in an atmospherically controlled environment, poured and controlled so each handle scale pattern is unique with a blend of gold, black and white.

The Complicity is one of two models being produced by Canadian knifemaker Laurent Doussot under the Skalja trademark. Laurent was born in France and now lives in Québec. In 1990, while studying Fine Arts, he discovered handmade knives, which became a vehicle for his passion for sculpture and mold making. His knives are inspired by forms found in nature. Since 1992, Laurent's focus has been his knife making. The Skalja brand was introduced in early 2007.

Buck® Alpha Dorado

Wilde Bill Cody has contributed to Buck's Limited Edition Collections since the 1970s. His Native American heritage and knife making skills both contribute to the unique designs. Ka-Bar® Union Cutlery Dog's Head

Ka-Bar's history goes back to the Tidioute Cutlery Company, which was founded in Pennsylvania in 1898. Out of the failure of that company, the Union Razor Company was formed in 1902. The name was changed again in 1909 to Union Cutlery Company then moved to Olean, New York in 1910. The Ka-Bar trademark was introduced in the 1920's and around 1942 the company submited a Ka-Bar branded knife to the U. S. Marine Corps. The Ka-Bar knife became so well known and so important to the company, that in 1952 the company name was changed to Ka-Bar Cutlery, Inc.

CRKT® Lake 111™

Ron Lake's latest breakthrough is the new Lake 111 by CRKT®. It is equipped with his patented Lock Back Safety (L.B.S.), which allows the user to slide the small L.B.S. button forward to lock the blade both in the open and closed positions. William Henry Breckenridge

The Breckenridge is a fifty piece limited edition using William Henry's striking new Copper Wave Damascus (patent pending) for the blade. This is not an A. G. Russell exclusive, but rather a special edition created for William Henry dealers. We have managed to reserve twenty knives for members of the Knife Collector's Club and expect these will be gone very quickly.

CRKT Horus™

Horus is familiar to Egyptologists as the hawk-headed god, lord of the sky. As Canyon Lake, Texas, knifemaker Allen Elishewitz developed this design for Columbia River Knife & Tool® (CRKT®), similar in many ways to his larger custom Creedmore, we saw an aggressive hawk-like character in its crisp edges, facets and choils, hence the Horus name. It reminds us of an F-117 stealth fighter, too.

CRKT Scarab™

In Ancient Egypt, the scarab beetle represented resurrection and renewal, and was depicted in art and jewelry as a talisman of good fortune. Allen Elishewitz is an acclaimed young Canyon Lake, Texas, knifemaker who offers a surprising range of custom knives, many with Egyptian-themed names.

CRKT® Ashworth Turtle

Boyd Ashworth's custom "Thomas C. Turtle" models won Best Miniature Folder® awards at two consecutive Blade Shows. These innovative little jewels were marked by the use of Boyd's own Damascus steels and exotic materials such as mother-of-pearl, wooly mammoth, fossil walrus, and gold. Consequently, you could spend close to four figures to own one.

Stag and VG-10 Damascus Hunter

For several years, we have purchased knives from Japan with blades made of a laminated steel with a VG-10 core. First it was a seven-piece set of A. G. Russell kitchen knives with white Corian® handles. What an elegant set - and extremely sharp for use in the home or professional kitchen. Then early this year, we introduced two different sizes of a drop point folder with Chinese Quince and White Bone handles. This will be the first hunting knife that we have offered with this blade steel.
